Wood Carving
Merging Tradition with Contemporary Design
Project Overview: Originating from Pasto, Colombia, my venture into wood carving has evolved into a passionate endeavor under the mentorship of a master carver. This personal project aims to blend traditional wood carving techniques with contemporary design, creating unique, story-rich wooden pieces that also preserve the intangible heritage of artisanal finishes like barniz de Pasto and enchapado de Tamo.
Design Philosophy: Wood carving for me is meditative, a dialogue with the material where each piece dictates its own form, revealing its inherent beauty. I view each creation as a narrative, capturing moments of cultural and personal history, offering both aesthetic pleasure and a spiritual connection to nature.
Brand Identity and Global Reach: Employing traditional tools and techniques, I collaborate with artisans to apply heritage finishes, integrating modern design elements. These pieces are sold globally, sharing the rich cultural heritage and my artistic journey.
Marketing and Digital Strategy: My work is marketed as preserving craftsmanship recognized as part of the intangible heritage of humanity. Through this, I bridge cultural gaps and introduce the traditions of Colombian wood carving to a worldwide audience.
Role and Impact: As the sole artist and designer, I am responsible for conceptualizing, carving, and finishing each piece, in collaboration with local artisans. This project allows me to connect deeply with my cultural roots and passions, resonating with others and promoting the preservation of these artistic practices worldwide.
